What is saunotus?

An experience rooted in tradition

A sauna ritual is a guided multisensory sauna ritual rooted in Finnish cultural heritage. It brings old sauna traditions to life through mythology, ritual songs, gifts of nature, scents, elements, and löyly—the steam that is both the spirit and the warmth of the sauna.

Smoke sauna also for companies and groups

The smoke sauna offers a peaceful environment for occupational well-being days, small groups, and joint sauna evenings by the bank of the Sipoonjoki river. In addition to traditional sauna sessions, rituals, and treatments, the day can be combined with, for example, a forest walk, forest yoga, wilderness dining at a lean-to, or a whisk-making workshop.

A new episode of the Spirit of Sauna podcast has been released! đŸŽ™ïž Sauna is often associated with silence, relaxation, and rituals. But the sauna has always been a place for celebration, too. In this episode of the Spirit of Sauna podcast, we ponder what celebrating in the sauna is really all about. ”Sauna parties,” where music, lights, and crowds are brought into the sauna, are becoming more common around the world. In Finland, however, the connection between the sauna and celebration runs much deeper. The sauna has been a central part of Midsummer, Christmas, weddings, and other important moments of the annual cycle. Yet celebration doesn't have to mean noise. A meaningful sauna celebration can be quiet, slow, and ritualistic. Perhaps celebrating is fundamentally about giving a certain moment the attention it deserves. So what makes a good sauna celebration? Can silence and celebration go together? And what can old traditions teach us about the art of celebrating today? Link to the episode in bio!

The autumn traditional sauna evenings start as early as next Friday! đŸ”„ There is still room for a few more bathers in the first evening. During the evening, you will get to experience a traditional sauna ritual in the heat of a smoke sauna, surrounded by birch whisks, herbs, and old sauna customs. Traditional sauna evenings are held about once a month until Christmas. The wheel of the year is present in the steam: moving from late summer's fresh plants towards the autumn Kekri time, darkening evenings, and finally winter's rest. Each evening is slightly different and follows the rhythm of the turning year. If the Finnish sauna and sauna tradition in general interest you, this is one of those experiences you simply have to try, at least once in your lifetime! A new episode of the Spirit of Sauna podcast has been released! đŸŽ™ïž There is still time to gather gifts of nature for winter sauna sessions, but not for much longer. That’s why it felt like a good moment to release this conversation, recorded back in June. In this episode, we dive into one of the deepest questions of the sauna tradition: worldview. The way we understand the fundamental nature of reality affects everything. Worldview influences how we relate to the body, healing, rituals, nature, and ultimately, what we actually believe happens in the sauna. Before we can ponder how to give a sauna experience, we must first ask what we believe sauna bathing can affect in the first place. Old sauna incantations speak of God, spirits, and invisible forces. But what are these actually meant to be? Do these words refer to supernatural beings, symbolic language, or something else entirely? The answer is by no means self-evident! In this episode, we don't shy away from these questions. Instead, we openly explore whether a cohesive way of understanding reality could lie behind the old sauna traditions. We also discuss how sauna culture more broadly appears from the perspective of an entire worldview. Link to the episode is in the bio link tree!

The last working bee of the summer 🌿 Here, steam scents for next winter are being prepared. The herbs are carefully dried so that their fragrances can be enjoyed in the smoke sauna even in the dead of winter. It's already starting to look pretty good! đŸ€ž

Now @sauna.ukko has hit the nail on the head! ”If someone had told me as a child that this is what I'd be doing when I grow up... 😬 Thanks for the challenge, @kolmecosmetics. Apparently, even the profession of a smoke sauna heater can be made to sound criminal. đŸ˜„đŸ”„â€
